THE RING OF FLAMES
Part Three
Two Indications
Furthermore, the case may be that by having the 13 acatl sign at the starting point of the Aztec Calendar, in its uppermost position between the tails of the Serpents, and having it appear at the position which corresponds to the Sun's Great Cycle as shown in this essay, may be communicating that the Sun's Great Cycle begins and ends on 13 acatl. For something similar occurs with the year-glyphs on the 52-year cycle, whereby the same number/year glyph is repeated only once at the beginning and ending of such a cycle. The same rule may apply here as well. Let us further consider the precision implied in the numbers that we have assigned to the Ring of Flames in this analysis. Throughout history different values have been identified for the Sun's Great Cycle:
Today, the Sun's Great Cycle is generally considered to be 25,800 years (365.2421987c), with the observation that the Sun slips back one revolution on its axis, therefore not being the more abstracted figure of 26,000 years. Questions of exactness in measurement aside, it may be concluded that the ancient astronomers were dealing with the orbital values of the Sun and its planetary bodies in the solar system, and possibly with a degree of conceptualization that we have yet to comprehend. Now, let us examine the Aztec Calendar's spatial division regarding 13 acatl with respect to the values assigned herein.
As we have seen, upon dividing the face of the Aztec Calendar according to these percentage values, the 13 acatl sign on the day-glyph ring lies between these two values:
